Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are chronic inflammatory diseases that affect the gastrointestinal tract (GI), the series of hollow organs that runs from the mouth to the anus.

Crohn’s Disease mainly affects the small intestine and beginning of the large intestine, however, any part of the GI tract may be affected.

Ulcerative Colitis is limited to the colon.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES?

The causes of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are not known but the following factors play a role:

  1. Auto-immune: when your body’s immune system attacks the lining of the GI tract

  2. Hereditary/Genetic factors: the disease can run in the family and certain populations have more of a prevalence, such as the case in the Ashkenazi Jewish population (Jews of European descent).

  3. Environmental factors: diets high in fats, certain antigens that can trigger an immune response and cause inflammation and certain medications

HOW ARE CROHN'S DISEASE AND ULCERATIVE COLITIS TREATED?

There is no known cure for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Treatment includes diet and nutrition adjustments and surgery as the last resort. Medications that suppress or reduce inflammation are used such as corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, antibiotics and biologic response modifiers. Home Infusion Options can administer Remicade, Entyvio and Stelara Infusions in the comfort of your home or in the convenience of your office.

OUR PROCESS

Home Infusion Options will complete an intake form with you that includes your home address, preferred address for your infusion (if different from your home), date of birth, insurance information and your prescribing doctor. Once we receive this information, we verify that your insurance benefits include home infusion therapy or home health care services under your insurance plan. Most insurance plans have one or the other, if not both.

If you don't have a prescription or clinical documentation to send us, we will reach out to your prescribing doctor to obtain the prescription and clinical documentation that supports your diagnosis and treatment.

After receiving the prescription and clinical documentation, we then forward those to your insurance company to request an authorization for your home infusion therapy services. The authorization includes the medication, supplies and nursing services.

We provide consistent communication of the authorization process. Once the authorization is completed, we discuss the outcome and next steps for your Infusion.

You will receive a Welcome Email with your assigned team contacts. Your team will consist of a Pharmacy Technician, Your Infusion Nurse and a Billing Specialist. Your infusion nurse will reach out to you and schedule your infusion, based on your preferred availability and location.

Our nurses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year - daytime hours, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Once you schedule your infusion with your nurse, you and your assigned pharmacy technician will schedule the delivery of your medication and supplies, which will be delivered to you 2-3 days before your infusion.
